  • How do we overcome?

Message:

There’s Only One Way Out!

It’s challenging to find a way out when life seems to be closing in on you. It’s even more difficult to find focus in this noisy world we live in. When we stop to watch/listen to the news and what’s going on around us, it is quite overwhelming. Just to name a few that I see:

  • The Whitehouse and our congress is in complete turmoil

  • Shootings happen on expressways, in churches, in schools, at concerts and on our street corners

  • Stock market crashes affect our overall stability, job security and our pensions & savings plans for retirement

  • Hurricanes, flooding, earthquakes, brushfires, and tsunami take lives every year as if they are planned

  • Educational systems fail our children, our communities and our future

  • Food desserts in many of our black and brown communities create dilemmas with access and health

This is not to mention the crazy personal turmoil that all of us face on a daily basis. This includes everything from health related challenges and dysfunctional relationship issues to financial problems and mental disorders, many of which only a few if anyone at all knows about.

Okay I’m going to stop RIGHT THERE before we get sucked in. I think you get my point. Life seems to be a fierce game of Russian Roulette. How do we find our way out and how do we find the space and time for God when there seems to be problems at every turn. How do we survive? How do we carve out time and a relationship with God in the meantime?

Ponder there for a moment and see what comes to your mind. No, don’t read on just yet. It’s not all about what I think. What do you think?

Daniel 3 is where God took me. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego where thrown into the fiery furnace. I suggest you read the whole chapter. You may click this link to do so. Full Chapter. Here’s the part that points our answer.

Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the door of the burning fiery furnace; he declared, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here!” Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out from the fire. 27 And the satraps, the prefects, the governors, and the king's counselors gathered together and saw that the fire had not had any power over the bodies of those men. The hair of their heads was not singed, their cloaks were not harmed, and no smell of fire had come upon them. 28 Nebuchadnezzar answered and said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants, who trusted in him, and set aside[f] the king's command, and yielded up their bodies rather than serve and worship any god except their own God. 29 Therefore I make a decree: Any people, nation, or language that speaks anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be torn limb from limb, and their houses laid in ruins, for there is no other god who is able to rescue in this way.” 30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

The closer you are to God, the more you begin to trust Him. The fire, the turmoil and the chaos had NO power over the bodies of those men. Not even a hair was singed. How do you come out of a fire and don’t smell like you’ve been in, under one or through one? They trusted in God! Yep, real simple. Do what you can do and trust God!

I wish I had more time to prepare a full sermon, but again I don’t. I could spend some time on this text. It’s a push to created these mini lessons and daily sermons would be more challenging (not impossible, but challenging). But here’s how you can help. Get your friends and family to join us. The more people we include, the more lives get touched and the more time I can devote to helping us keep our mind on the Lord.

When you see a good movie, you tell people about it. Movies and concerts are entertainment, BUT GOD is real. Someone you know is asking the same questions you are. How do we change the world? How do we save the world from all the nonsense? We teach them about faith and by trusting God. There is only one way out!
